Prerequisites

Knowledge / competencies

Participants should have basic familiarity with the command line and some programming experience (preferably R). Basic understanding of genomics and DNA sequencing is recommended but not required.

Some familiarity with NGS techniques, quality control, alignment to a reference genome, and detection of genomic variants is helpful but will be covered during the course.

Participants should have a basic understanding of working with command line tools on Unix-based systems. You can test your skills with Unix with the quiz here.

Technical

Participants should have their own computer with a browser installed (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Edge), and can access http websites. Test it here: http://httpforever.com/.

NoteCourse Environment

The course exercises run on a cloud-based environment, so all software, data, and tools are pre-installed for you. You access everything through your web browser. No local installation is required.

This means you can participate from any computer with an internet connection and a modern browser, regardless of your operating system.

Communication platform

This course will use Slack for communication and questions during the course. You will receive an invitation to join our Slack workspace before the course starts. No prior experience needed. Slack works in any web browser and is also available as a desktop/mobile app.
